Graphic Design

Illustrator

Creating posters for VPL events sometimes calls for the creation of original images, and Illustrator is often the first tool of choice. These must visually convey to library patrons what the event is about. Due to workload, they are also typified by the reality that not a great deal of time can be spent on them. In that spirit, they have been dubbed 15-minute logos, and are a great creative exercise.

Photoshop

Images are often sent in a less than optimal state, and often require colour correction and other repairs. Occasionally too, historical photographs will be sent to be electronically repaired.

InDesign

InDesign is the workhorse of VPL's Graphic Studio. With it, we assemble the components for just about all our posters, brochures, handouts and signage.

Web Design

My web design education has enabled me to advise and create unique websites for my own, part-time, business clients as well as help my employer improve their presence on the WWW. Since 2002, I designed and have maintained the VPL Literature and Social Science Division public websites and staff intranet. My latest design for the latter is held by the organization as a model, and has been adopted by a number of other VPL worksites. As an Information Assistant, I have created and led workshops for VPL staff and the public in blogging, web design, HTML, and database use.

Lords of the Earth

Lords of the Earth is a commercial strategy game with a global player base in the hundreds. The website is the main method of transmitting information to the players. Utilizing Wordpress, the template is original, and has a variety of CSS based "skins" that help evoke the mood of the game.

Personal website

My personal website is a blog where I test out new techniques and methods. Currently it utilizes Moo FX for the menus and resizeable boxes with rounded corners achieved via CSS.
